| The National Society of Professional Surveyors announced the release of a new speaker's kit intended for use in recruiting young people into the survey profession. Targeting students of middle to high school age, the kit contains a narrated video, CD-ROM of handouts and photos, printed speaker's guide (including program evaluation forms and overheads), and four-color brochure detailing surveying careers. NSPS is currently researching options for purchasing additional copies of the career brochure.
The presentation, titled "Measuring the World Around Us - A High-Tech Career in Professional Surveying," is available for use through NYSAPLS Headquarters Bookstore. Individual copies of the CD-ROM can be distributed for a nominal fee. As a member benefit, NYSAPLS members can use this kit when making presentations to area high schools or community groups by emailing contactnysapls@nysapls.net.
"Our profession needs to attract young people at an early age to insure that an adequate number of licensed surveyors will be available to meet the demands of the future," said Curt W. Sumner, LS, NSPS Executive Director. "We are grateful to TOPCON and the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying for funding the production of this much needed resource tool."
As a supplement to the speakers kit, a new website was launched to describe the career benefits of a professional surveyor. Additional resources, including a list of related webiste links, can be found here. |
